Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau

All of these fall under neuromodulators. The same way the brand name Qtip has become synonymous with the cotton tipped applicator, Botox has become synonymous with neuromodulators. However, all of these are unique and work in slightly different ways. In general, these neuromodulators are proteins that hinder communication between nerves and muscles cells. Because muscular contraction depends on this communication, these neuromodulators prevent muscles movements, thus removing the appearance of wrinkles and preventing lines!

The protein they are derived from is called Botulinum Toxin Type A. Yes, the same one that leads to Botulism. This protein is purified from disease and safe to use. Botox was the first to gain FDA approval. It was discovered by an ophthalmologist and first used to treat crossed eyes (strabismus) by relaxing the overactive muscle.

In my opinion, the end result with all of these are similar. Some studies show quicker onset and longer duration with some, however in my professional experience, everyone metabolizes neuromodulators differently. Thus, what may work beautifully for you, may not last as long for you best friend. Together, we decide which one is best for you!
